Pine Creek Outfitters is located 11 miles west of Wellsboro on US Route 6 in Ansonia, at the entrance to the PA Grand Canyon, 1 mile from the north end of the West Rim Trail. Our base has on-site launching of boats and is conveniently located for nearby access to other hiking trails. We sell hiking maps and trail-guides and our staff is very knowledgeable about the area. We are 3/4 mile west of the Ansonia bridge . Look for our red canoes and rough-cut building. |

The West Rim Trail is a linear north-south backpacking trail that traverses the western rim of the canyon, which is 800 feet deep and 2,000 feet wide from one rim to the other. Primitive (tent) camping is allowed along the trail. The northern terminus is on Colton Point Road, only 1 mile from our store in Ansonia. The southern terminus is located at Rattlesnake Rock (just south of the village of Blackwell). Several access points along West Rim Road allow you to shorten the trail or take day hikes.
Pine Creek Outfitters offers shuttle services for the West Rim Trail (and parts of the Mid-State Trail too). We can bring you and your gear to the south terminus or any of the access points along the trail. We can also shuttle your vehicle(s) to the south terminus. |

Trail Details:
Camping: Camping is allowed anywhere along the trail; except at either terminus, within sight of the Bradley Wales picnic area, or within 100 yards of buildings (private hunting cabins, etc.). Camping permits can be obtained at the DCNR office on Rt 287 or from Pine Creek Outfitters. Only primitive (or tent) camping is permitted.
Water: Most of the trail is high on a plateau, but water is still available regularly (approx. every 4 to 8 miles). Bohen Run and Fahneystock Run are the most reliable water sources on the southern half of the trail during the summer, while the northern half has more regular year-round sources. Best advice is not to deplete your water supply until you have reached a viable water source. Remember to purify!
Fires: Small campfires for cooking and warming are permitted except during periods of high fire danger. Contact Tioga State Forest office at (570)-724-2868 for more info. Always extinguish a fire completely before leaving, and never leave a fire unattended.
Maps: Trail guides and waterproof maps can be obtained at Pine Creek Outfitters or by mail-order. We also carry camping supplies at our store. |

Keep Close to Nature’s heart . . . And break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

I leave town with its hundred noises, Its clatter and whir of wheel and steam, For woodland quiet and silvery voices, With a camp of bark by a crystal stream.
